The primary function of a motor starter is to start and stop the motor to which it is connected. The main difference between a relay and a starter is that a starter contains overload protection for the motor. Review: Electrical angle control system.

Today I have read the article about electrical angle control system, that is used in brushless DC motors. This is a high counter electromotive voltage system, with a rotor for detecting it's position and generating a position detection signal, while an electrical angle control unit receiving the position detection signal and controlling period of this signal. When reaching zero degrees, electrical angle ensures a small driving current and reduction in the power consumption of the motor. In my opinion by reducing the quantity of current and energy consumption, we can drastically change angle control systems in the future.

Review: The role of plugging in motor stopping.

Today I've read the article about plugging method of stoping.
The plugging method of stopping is the fastest way to stop but it can be harsh on both the electrical and mechanical components. Because of this it’s the least commonly used method of braking but it's appropriate for some applications. Plugging is possible on both DC motors and AC induction motors. One of the most important problems of this method is that it can be difficult to brake the motor at exactly zero speed. Another disadvantage to plugging is that it can include high mechanical shock loads on the motor and connected equipment.
Despite of this drawbacks, plugging is used in elevators, presses and mills where a rapid stop of the motor is required.

Today I have read the article about dynamic braking, also called rheostatic braking, that allows us to break a motor by reversing the torque’s direction. When we detach electric motors from their power supplies they generally have no problem stopping. Though, for a large motor, stopping will take longer. A large motor has a high amount of rotating inertia, as the stored energy must be dissolved through wind friction. However, with a dynamic brake, you can improve this situation by making the motor operate like a generator. In my opinion by elaborating this sphere of technology we can change our future.

Unlike toys and flashlights, most homes, offices and other buildings aren't powered by little batteries: they're supplied with AC, which reverses its direction about 50 times per second. While in direct current(DC) motors, where we send power to the inner rotor, in AC motors we send power to the outer coils that make up the stator. This article does a great job of shedding light on complexity of the octopus' nervous system. To my mind, we know too little about marine life and the ocean itself to set our minds on space.

I've just read the article "Hidden in a museum, we found the skull of a rare armored dinosaur that roamed Queensland 105 million years ago".
As the title suggests, a group of Australian scientists have recently rediscovered the ankylosaur skull. This herbivorous dinosaur had armored plates and spikes on its back and tail. Ankylosaur remains had been found predominantly in the Northern hemisphere, which makes this discovery even more exciting. The skull was scanned with X-ray in Melbourne and a 3D model is being created to reveal bones.
Paleontologists say that there may be several fundamental differences in this reptile's and it's North American relatives' anatomies. That would imply a more complicated kinship, shifted timelines and more research that needs to be carried out.

I've just read the article "Top 10 countries for energy sustainability".
It tells about the energy sectors of some of the largest renewable energy producers and their pros and cons. The countries were rated on three parameters: energy security, energy equity and environmental sustainability. The top three countries are Switzerland, Denmark and Sweden. If you skim through the list, it is clear that Europe dominates this chart. There are some interesting cases, but the most popular problems are high dependency on fossil fuel, increasing energy consumption and growing electricity prices.
This list shows that the world is not ready for transition straight away, but the progress is being made.

Today I read an article that says that even an artificial brain can also need sleep. It says that, according to a new study from the Los Alamos National Laboratory, androids will almost certainly need rest periods. Scientist Watkins and her research team found that the network simulation became unstable after extended periods of unsupervised learning. When they subjected the networks to states similar to the waves that living brains experience during sleep, stability was restored. Initially, the group struggled with the stabilization of simulated neural networks undergoing unsupervised vocabulary learning, which involves classifying objects without prior examples to compare them.
